I Have Flown With Scoot Airlines Twice, Once in Economy Class And Once in Business

Scoot Airlines is a Singapore-based low-cost carrier, best known for its cheap flights and best deals. Passengers tend to have contradicting reviews about their service, as the experience differs for everyone.

Let’s put the debate to an end by discussing all the important things about flying with this airline. Here is my authentic and honest account, reviewing the entirety of my Scoot Airlines flight. Keep reading to learn about my recent experience and make an informed decision.

What Is Scoot Airlines?

Scoot Airlines is a direct subsidiary of Singapore Airlines that was founded in 2011. This low-cost airline has an extensive network in the Asia-Pacific region, but it also operates in some parts of the Middle East and Europe. You can access them for medium and long-haul routes in the aforementioned regions. As a budget airline, they offer cheap flights with ancillary “purchasable” services and “add-ons”. Passengers can customize their flight and add amenities for an additional cost.

Since their parent company is based in Singapore, they benefit from the brand name and developed infrastructure as well. However, they are actively expanding their network and flight operations in the European region.

Their unique concept of “Scootitude” fosters a customer-focused attitude and focuses on reliability. Other than that, passengers can also access features like “Scoot Plus” or “Scoot in silence” to enjoy a contemporary travel experience.

Their modern fleet consists of 50 aircraft, including Airbus A320-family, the widebody Boeing 787 Dreamliner, and the Embraer E190-E2 planes.

Is Scoot Airlines Safe?

The best thing about Scoot Airlines is its commendable reputation in terms of safety. Scoot offers a highly secure journey and ensures maximum protection for all of its passengers. They adhere to international regulations and industry standards, earning them high rankings across various networks and ratings.

Since Scoot is part of the International Air Transportation Association (IATA), it complies with the latest safety procedures regularly. Other than that, they were also named World’s Best Long Haul Low-Cost Airline by Skytrax, and they were given 5 stars in the Skytrax COVID-19 Airline Safety Audit (the highest rating). Not only this, but they also received a diamond status by global safety audit, APEX Health Safety, powered by SimpliFlying.

All of these factors instill confidence among potential passengers and show them that their chosen airline is genuinely safe. With the help of their sister company, “SIA Engineering Company”, they conduct regular check-ups and ensure that their fleet is in the best condition. While the general time is 3 months, Scoot services its fleet every 2.5 months.

For me personally, safety was not a concern during my flight. Seeing that the airline ground staff was thoroughly conducting all the safety procedures and adhering to regulations, I was extremely satisfied. Since Scoot is well-known for its safety, I was able to have a stress-free flight in this regard.

Food Included Aboard Scoot Airlines

Since Scoot is a low-cost carrier, they don’t provide complimentary food items or beverages in the base fare. Their business model is designed in a way that ticket fare only covers the seat; everything else is “optional” and requires extra money. Hence, you will not be receiving free water or snacks during your flight.

However, Scoot Airlines allows in-flight purchases of food and beverages. In fact, passengers can pre-book hot meals up to 72 hours before departure. They tend to have a diverse menu with plenty of options, so you can pick anything you prefer (including premium meals). Passengers with any sort of dietary restrictions or allergy concerns can contact Scoot customer services for proper guidance.

Lastly, Business class passengers in “Scoot Plus” receive complimentary snacks and beverages on their flight because their fare class is higher than economy.

I have flown with Scoot Airlines twice, once in economy class and once in business. When I flew economy, I pre-ordered Scoot’s meal service because I was on a long-haul flight. Unfortunately, the food didn’t taste good and I had to leave most of it. The second time around, I was given free snacks and beverages in business class, which tasted decent. I suppose the taste depends on what you order, but my personal experience didn’t go well.

Scoot Airlines Baggage Policy

Comparatively speaking, Scoot Airlines have a good baggage allowance on all of its Scoot flights. However, it’s not much different from other low-cost carriers. Here is a rough breakdown:

Cabin baggage allowance

For carry-on luggage in economy class and Scoot Plus, the dimensions must be 54cm x 38cm x 23cm (total linear dimensions cannot exceed 115cm), and it should fit in the overhead cabin. For a personal item, the dimensions must be 40cm x 30cm x 10 cm, and it should fit under the seat.

Fare class Cabin bags
Economy 2 pieces, maximum 10 kg
Scoot Plus (business)2 pieces, maximum 15 kg

Checked baggage allowance

Your checked luggage should not exceed the total linear dimensions of 158 cm. I.e., the sum of all the dimensions should be up to 158 cm. Other than that, each bag should weigh under 32 kg.

Passengers can purchase additional baggage allowance up to 40 kg in economy and Scoot Plus alike, but it will incur an extra cost.

Fare class Checked bags
Economy Not included
Scoot Plus (business)30 kg

Scoot Airlines Cancellation Policy

Unfortunately, Scoot Airlines does not have a flexible flight cancellation policy. They state that cancellations, refunds, and credits are simply not permitted. This non-refundable and non-cancellation policy is pretty rigid, but there are a few exceptions.

Passengers can buy a “cancel your trip” add-on up until 4 hours before the departure. This essentially means that you can cancel your flight by paying a specific amount and receive partial refunds.

Other than that, refunds are available for significant cases such as disruptions, medical reasons, or the death of a passenger or immediate family member. You will need to present medical certificates as proof.

Is Scoot Airlines Worth It?

My travel experience with Scoot Airlines has been subject to changes. For my first time in the economy, I didn’t have the best trip, and it was a bad experience. While the booking and boarding process was pretty similar (without priority boarding), the in-flight experience varied a lot. The Scoot Plus experience was better in a lot of ways, considering we paid more for it. However, even some basic things like the airplane staff’s behaviour have changed a lot.

The flight attendants and cabin crew were way more active in Scoot Plus, while their service was average in economy. In my opinion, this shouldn’t change based on fare class because all passengers have equal rights irrespective of their cabins. Furthermore, Scott doesn’t have the best customer support staff either. It’s really difficult to get in touch with them and receive proper guidance. If you have any queries or doubts, you will have to scour the internet and find answers on your own.

Apart from these problems, there is no doubt that Scoot is a reputable airline. They have spacious and clean airplanes with suitable seats in both classes. I was able to relax and sit comfortably in my window seat, thanks to the extra legroom. As for Scoot Plus, the seats had plenty of padding, which made my flight a lot better.

Considering everything, Scoot Airlines is, in fact, worth it. The minor problems do not take away from the bigger benefits.

Final Thoughts

As a budget-conscious traveler, the first thing that attracted me to Scoot Airlines was its affordable ticket prices. Scoot is a low-cost airline, so I didn’t expect much in the first place; this is the very reason why I was able to have a satisfactory experience.

If you are thinking of flying with Scoot Airlines, manage your expectations accordingly and do not expect their service to be extraordinary. You will get exactly what you pay for, and nothing more. It’s a good option for people who prefer budget-friendly options over luxury ones; you can add as many ancillary services as you prefer and customize your travel experience.

I would certainly fly with them again for short-haul and long-haul flights. However, they should train their customer service staff better.

Good luck on your flight, we hope this honest review helps you out!
