Star Peru Airlines, also known as Aerolíneas Star Peru S.A., is a Peruvian airline. They operate passenger and cargo flights alike. The best thing about them is that you can fly to multiple destinations while maintaining a tight budget. Their cheap rates are truly out of this world, allowing a wider population to access air travel. However, the question is whether they are any good. This is an honest review of what it’s like flying with Star Peru Airlines for the first time!
Make sure to consider all the details and Star Peru reviews before booking a flight with them.
What Is Star Peru Airlines?
Star Peru is Peru’s national airline and the official flag carrier of the country. With their headquarters based in Lima (Jorge Chávez International Airport), they fly within Peru and South America. Passengers can access this airline to fly to various cities, including Tarapoto, Iquitos, Pucallpa, Cajamarca, Chiclayo, and Huanuco.
Star Peru was originally founded in 1997 as “Servicio de Transporte Aéreo Regional”. However, its name later changed to Star Up and now Star Peru. They offer direct flights for passengers and Cargo alike. Apart from that, their fleet consists of polished and well-developed aircraft, namely Boeing 737-300 and Dash Q400 aircraft.
Is Star Peru Airlines Safe?
Since safety is one of the primary requisites for every passenger, I always pay attention to this element before purchasing airline tickets with a new carrier. As for Star Peru, it’s fair to say that it’s a reasonably safe airline with safe flight operations. Since they are a part of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), they are required to comply with all of its safety procedures.
This adds an extra layer of safety and security as the IATA’s fine print is rigorous; you can expect Star Peru to adhere to industry standards. Although it is known that their domestic flights tend to be safer than international flights.
Personally, I didn’t run into any safety issues (physical or personal data related) during my flight. The Star Peru Airlines staff and boarding agents were thorough and careful so which certainly instilled more confidence in me.

Food Included Aboard Star Peru Airlines
Star Peru Airlines does not offer any complimentary food services on its flights. Before you purchase a ticket, make sure to note that the base fare does not include additional amenities or services.
However, they have in-flight food service, and passengers can pre-book meals while booking their respective flights. They usually have a ton of options; solid food and beverages alike, and the options are vast for long-haul flights. Remember that you will be required to pay for said food with the ticket price.
I usually don’t opt for airplane food, but I ended up purchasing in-flight food during my journey. The menu and variety differ based on the final destination, route, and duration of the flight. Although from what I saw, they had a decent amount of variety, and the dietary options were pretty diverse. I purchased some snacks, so the taste was not anything different from what I was expecting; it may be different for their actual meals.
Star Peru Airlines Baggage Policy
Star Peru has a good luggage policy that isn’t much different from its peers. Here is a breakdown of the main details and the extra baggage allowance.
Hand luggage
Star Peru allows passengers to bring one carry-on bag with them for free. I.e,. This bag is covered by your base ticket fare. As for the size requirements, the bag can have maximum dimensions of 40 x 35 x 25 cm; anything exceeding that will incur an oversized luggage fee. Additionally, your carry-on should not weigh more than 8 kg.
For my flight, the plane wasn’t that overpacked, so I easily carried my personal luggage on the plane and secured it in the overhead bin. Your specific flight details may change this experience for you.
Checked Baggage
The allowance for checked baggage mainly depends on your fare class. Classes Y and H allow you to bring 2 pieces of checked luggage, while classes N, V, X, and O offer 1 piece of luggage. In either case, one piece of luggage shouldn’t weigh more than 23 kg. Additionally, the dimensions must not go over 75 cm high, 45 cm long, and 35 cm wide, or 155 linear centimetres.
Since my checked bag was somewhat overweight, I had to pay an extra fee to bring it along. Star Peru incurs 1.77$ each for additional kilos, and for me, that was the better alternative.
Star Peru Airlines Cancellation Policy
One of the best things about Star Peru is its flexible cancellation policy. You can acquire a full refund for unused tickets, while rebooking options are also available for cancelled or delayed flights.
One of my friends traveled with Star Peru recently, but her flight got delayed because of the rainy season; she was able to rebook on their next available flight without any hassle or miscommunication.
In the instance that their next available flight is at a later date, they will arrange transfers and accommodation for you until further notice.
Passengers can cancel their flights or seek support by contacting the Star Peru Airlines office in Lima or Peru. You can easily access information via their web site as the page side navigation is fairly simple as well.

Is Star Peru Airlines Worth It?
Across the social networks, passengers often have mixed reviews regarding Star Peru Airlines. Some regard it as an amazing airline with the cheapest routes, while others call it the “worst airline”. While I wouldn’t say that Star Peru provided me with my best experience, it was relatively good and half decent. I didn’t run into any significant issues, and even those who did were catered to by the supportive customer care staff.
I suppose the quality of your experience also depends on the cabin class you are traveling in. It’s no secret that business class passengers are treated better; if you have special needs, you can Star Peru assistance team beforehand and request additional support as well.
The cabin was spacious, and the seats were as good as you can expect, given their affordable rates. I was happy to see the legroom and the overall ambience of the plane. Our flight attendants and cabin crew were also professional and skilled, so I didn’t have any issues in that regard either.
My travel partner and I opted for priority boarding (when select individuals are provided speedy check-ins) because the lines tend to be really bad. All in all, my travel experience was good and I would fly with Star Peru again, especially for local flights.
