I Always Fly EVA Airlines to China—Here’s Why I Keep Coming Back

Eva Airlines is one of the largest airlines in Taiwan, ranking close to China Airlines and Starlux Airlines. They are specifically known for their high quality of service and reliability.

I have flown with them a couple of times; in fact, I opt for them every time I have to fly within or to China. If you are wondering what it’s like to fly with them, keep reading this honest review and learn all the essential details.

What Is Eva Airlines?

Eva Airlines is a full-service 5-star carrier that is ranked as Taiwan’s second-largest airline, second only to China Airlines. With its headquarters at  Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) near Taipei, Eva flies to over 70 destinations. This international airline has an extensive network as it operates passenger and cargo flights to 40+ destinations in Asia, Australia, Europe, and North America.

Since it’s a member of Star Alliance, it is partnered with other major airlines as well. Eva Airlines also happens to be the parent company of subsidiary airline Uni Air.

Typically, their cabins are categorised in two or three classes, depending on the specific aircraft. Their Business Class is either known as Royal Laurel Class or Premium Laurel Class, based on the aircraft. Furthermore, Elite Class is a Premium Economy cabin, and Economy Class is available on all flights.

Is Eva Airlines Safe?

With a 5-star rating, Eva Airlines is often praised for its safety in short and long-haul flights. Passengers can rely on this airline to ensure maximum safety, physical and personal data alike. Since Eva operates a modern and updated fleet, their aircraft comply with industry standards and international aviation standards.

Other than that, Eva Airlines is ranked the 7th AirlineRatings’ World’s Safest Airlines for 2025, further supporting its well-deserved reputation. This is Eva’s 12th consecutive year being ranked in the global ratings for the safest airlines worldwide.

In my personal experience, I have never had safety issues with Eva Airlines. They have a transparent website for online booking with minimal third-party intervention, hence ensuring data protection. As for physical safety, their ground staff is highly trained, and they take security checks very seriously. The in-flight experience is safe because the airline promotes a comfortable environment for everyone. Passenger rights are ensured, creating a safe space for everyone. In case of trouble with fellow passengers or airline staff (like flight attendants or cabin crew), the airline deals with it effectively.

Food Included Aboard Eva Airlines

Eva Airlines has a decent food policy whereby they offer several food and beverages to all of its passengers. You can get anything like instant noodles, orange juice, ice cream, water bottles, etc.

Typically, meal service is included in the ticket price for international flights. Passengers can also pre-order meals (if they have dietary restrictions) at no extra cost. However, special meal requests must be made 24 hours ahead of the flight’s departure time. Their e-menu contains a wide variety of good food options for passengers to choose from.

Other than that, they also offer in-flight purchases of snacks, soft drinks, and alcoholic beverages on many of their flights. You can order exclusive gourmet meals, white wines, and other things in addition to your main meal.

Eva Air Luggage Policy

Eva Airlines offers 3 fare classes, and baggage allowance differs for each. Their policy is also different for cabin luggage and checked baggage. Here is a rough breakdown:

Eva Airlines Cancellation Policy

One of the best things about Eva Airlines is its flexible cancellation policy. You can acquire a full refund for unused tickets, while rebooking options are also available for cancelled or delayed flights.

If you cancel your Eva Air flight within 24 hours of booking, you are eligible for a full refund. However, said booking must have been made at least a week before the flight’s departure date. For all other cases, passengers will have to incur additional cancellation fees; these fees will vary based on your fare class, route, and the specific time when you cancel.

Cash and check payments are refunded within 20 days, while credit card refunds are processed within 7 days. It is important to note that reduced fare tickets or free tickets are not eligible for refunds in any case.

On the bright side, if any problem occurs from Eva Airlines’ end (like a delayed flight or oversales), you will be compensated accordingly.

Is Eva Airlines Worth It?

Passengers often tend to have mixed reviews about Eva Airlines, with several complaining about its high fares and additional charges. Customers often complain that the airline charges extra for minor things while its peers provide the same amenities for free.

Personally, I rarely fly in the Asian region, and when I do, I automatically turn to Eva because of its high reliability. They provide in-flight amenities with a huge selection of movies and TV shows, amazing meal service, a pair of noise-cancelling headphones, and a variety of editorial content. While its competitors may offer better deals, they fail to provide the same level of excellent service. When flying within a foreign country, I prefer safety and comfort over budget. If that’s not the case for you, then Eva Airlines may not be worth it for you.

Additionally, Eva is great for a luxury flight experience. Last year, on my 14-hour flight, I decided to treat myself and went for the full premium experience. I got a Priority Pass, so my boarding time was cut in half. I also enjoyed their lie-flat seats and designer pajamas, along with the delicious food. It was a 10/10 experience.

The only prominent weakness of Eva Airlines is the increasing price of deflation, while its biggest competition, China Airlines, deals with this efficiently.
